Marshall Community Foundation Offers Significant Support to Area Agencies

In 2023 the Marshall Community Foundation launched its Impact Grant making initiative.  Impact Grants, awarded once annually, offer area agencies the opportunity to develop long-lasting projects which will benefit the City of Marshall and surrounding townships.  These grants may be used to support capacity building, new major projects, and/or be used as challenge grants.

Since its inception, four area non-profits have been awarded funding for programs that have offered significant benefits to the Marshall are.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department received $35,000 to purchase updated drones and additional necessary equipment.  The drones play a crucial role in search and rescue missions, crime scene investigations, traffic accident reconstruction, and emergency response situations. The advanced features and improved capabilities, the drones help the Sheriff’s Department increase safety, efficiency, and effectiveness in our daily operations.

Marshall Opportunity High School received $25,000 for a summer STEM program to extend academic opportunities to promote youth development.  This program allowed students to explore careers in remote piloting, the medical field, and agriculture.  The Impact Grant funded hands-on equipment to supplement the immersive lessons – specifically drones, 3-D printers, farmbots, and hydroponic supplies.

Starr Commonwealth received $100,000 to support their F.O.C.U.S. Forward program.  This program is designed to fill a critical void in programs and services for emerging adults.  The program seeks to reduce youth unemployment, increase workforce participation, and provide long-term career pathways that lead to financial independence.  The participants will contribute to a stronger local community and a more resilient workforce.

S.A.F.E. Place received $57,500 to increase the agency’s service to survivors in the Marshall area.  Support from the grant allows S.A.F.E. Place the ability lease, furnish, and secure an office in the City Marshall.  The new location offers lifesaving services to survivors of domestic violence.  These services include counseling, legal advocacy, survivor advocacy, financial assistance, and prevention education programming.
