Make an Impact With Your Charitable Giving

The Marshall Community Foundation offers a range of services and resources to help you learn about community issues and make the greatest possible impact with your charitable giving.

As soon as you establish a fund, our staff handles all administrative tasks, including proposal review, check writing, reporting requirements, tax returns and annual audits. We also monitor all grants to ensure they were executed as specified.

Staff are available to meet with you about any aspect of your giving. We can also arrange site visits with organizations you choose or wish to support through the Foundation, so you can see firsthand the charitable work you are contributing to in the community.

Let us help you get started.

Following is information that may help you get started in the process of considering your next steps with the Marshall Community Foundation.

Suggested Will and Trust Language

It is not complicated to include a bequest to the Marshall Community Foundation in your will or estate plan. We suggest you consider the following clause in your instrument:

"I give, devise and bequeath the following _______ (describe assets which are the subject of the bequest; for example, a stated sum or the residue of the estate or a percentage of the residue of the estate)to the Marshall Community Foundation, a Michigan nonprofit corporation. This gift shall be known as the _____ Fund." (choose the name of your fund.)

Through your bequest, you can choose to contribute to an existing fund, or establish your own fund.

If you choose to apply your bequest to an area of charitable interest of to specific organizations not already served by an existing fund, we ask that you also add the following:

“This gift shall be known as the ___________ Fund. The purpose of the fund shall be devoted to the support of _____________.”

General Trust Language

“I direct that all remaining assets comprising the trust estate [or a percentage, fixed amount or particular asset] shall be distributed to the Marshall Community Foundation, Marshall, Michigan, with the request that such funds would be used for purposes I may have, from time to time, recommended to the Community Foundation in writing during my lifetime.”

If you choose to apply your trust’s remaining assets to an area of charitable interest or to specific organizations not already served by an existing fund, please also include the language listed below.

“This gift shall be known as the ___________ Fund. The purpose of the fund shall be devoted to the support of _____________.”
