1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council?

Bodil Loonen, she graduated two years ago. I would bring hard work and I am always willing to help others.

2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service?

Community service to me is helping someone in a less fortunate situation than you out of the kindness in your heart. When my aunt was undergoing her Lyme disease treatment she was overwhelmed with community support and service. It was very beautiful to see kindness from even strangers.

3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words

I think Academic pressure is a very important thing to focus on in the community. A lot of kids feel pressure to live their life a certain way and feel that it’s only possible through school. The world is so big and so full of opportunities than require a high gpa or honors classes. Teachers should instill that their are other careers and there are so many more things to life than school. Especially high school. When you are a high schooler you are made out to think that these four years are the end all be all. They are just four years though, we are made out to think that they determine the rest of our lives. So in turn students put everything they have into four years and have nothing more to give for the rest. Students burn out, students fail. We need to take more steps to lesson the constant pressure that teenagers face. Teenagers should be taught that high school is not what determines the rest of life. Teenagers should have to feel guilty for wanting to live in high school and have fun. Teenagers only have so much time left before the real world and it’s filled with people telling them about how their actions now will determine the rest of their life.

4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation?

I captain of the swim team and a member of the girls soccer team. I would still participate in YAC as much as needed.

5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when?

Yes, a year ago
