1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council? | I Heard about the YAC from my parents asking me to look into applying to be on the council. I am interested in being on the council because I am very involved in the community and want what's best for the future. I would bring the following qualities to the council: open mindedness, problem solving, attention to detail and leadership skills. |
2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service? | Community service means improving the lives of people in our community and making the community better. My involvement in community service has made a good impact on me by broadening my perspective on social issues and deepening my empathy for others. |
3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words | Academic pressure is when students feel a lot of stress about doing good in school. This happens for a couple of reasons. First, there's a big focus on getting good grades and doing well on tests. In many places, doing good in school is seen as really important for students futures. This makes students worry and have pressure on them to do good in school. Another reason is competition. Students often compare themselves to others and feel like they have to do better than everyone else. This can make students feel like they're not smart enough if they don't do as well as their friends or classmates. Also, sometimes students feel like they have to live up to their parent's expectations. Students might feel pressured to choose certain classes or careers that they are not passionate about. All this pressure can be really difficult on students. It can make them feel anxious and stressed out. It can even affect their mental health. To help students deal with academic pressure, it's important for schools and parents to have a supportive environment. That means understanding that everyone learns differently and helping students find ways to manage their stress. It's also important to remind students that their grades don't define who they are and how smart they are. |
4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation? | If accepted to YAC, I will prioritize my commitment to the organization by being responsible in scheduling and prioritizing different events and activities that I have. I am involved with FFA as an officer (Sentinel), track, soccer, and possibly other activities if presented to me. |
5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when? | This is my first time applying to the YAC. |
