1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council?

I heard about YAC through my some friends who were apart of YAC, but are graduating this year.
I enjoy helping those in my community and educating myself about current issues and ways that they can be resolved. I'm always willing to work as a team, whether that means being the leader or just a good team player.

2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service?

Community service to me means bettering the community and myself, being able to come together with others to motivate, include, and appreciate people in the community. By volunteering I feel more connected to people, and gain perspectives I might not have otherwise had. Community service has shown me how lucky I am and fuels my drive to give back and help support those around me.

3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words

I will be discussing steps that we could take to decrease the number of Marshall and Albion students that struggle with academic pressure.
1.) Root Causes of Academic Pressure - to address an issue, you first need to understand that issue. Academic pressure is defined as stress and anxiety put on a student when they are expected to perform at a certain level of academic excellence. Some of the main causes of academic pressure are pressure from those around you, heavy coursework, lack of support, and fear. When students are struggling in classes, they are less likely to say something if they've already been struggling for a period of time, often resulting in academic pressure or them burning out. Academic pressure can also grow from teachers that give lots of homework with no consideration of other classes, or events that are primitive to adolescence.
2.) Solutions to the Problem - Increasing student resources; the more resources accessible to those struggling with academic pressure, the more likely they will be to use them. Helping students create good time management strategies, offering a more diverse tutoring schedule, having a specific time to do homework in school would also help to relieve academic pressure from those in the Albion and Marshall area.

4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation?

YAC would take as much priority as any of my other extra-curricular activities, after school. Meaning saving space in my schedule for specific meeting dates and YAC volunteering time.

5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when?

Ye, I applied last year for a YAC membership and was denied.
