1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council?

I heard about YAC through my mom, who was a member of YAC in high school. I'm interested in YAC because I've always loved helping my community, and I think it will be a good way to be more social and apply myself. To YAC I bring an inclusive and uplifting attitude to make sure everyone feels like they're meant to be there.

2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service?

To me, community service means bringing out the best in our community. Helping others by giving simple time to make someone smile or know they're loved and appreciated. Community service has affected me by making me feel like I'm doing something good without receiving anything in return.

3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words

The option I choose is option B, mental health. Mental health is an issue seen in everyone, but is also the worst during your teenage or high school years. I believe there are a few things we as high schoolers ourselves could to to address and improve the ways we treat and approach mental health.
First, I think making limited mental health days off from school just like sick days would be affective. Your parent or guardian simply calls you in as they would if you were sick, and when asked why, say it's just because you needed a day to decompress.
Second, I think that having a "rock" is super important. A rock is a person you know you can alway lean on or talk to and never feel pressured or forced. For example, my rock is my mom. She alway knows exactly what to do and how to listen just to make sure I'm okay no matter what. If you know or see someone who may not have a rock, try your best to be the rock for them.
Mental health can really affect someones life, if you see someone struggling, give empathy, not sympathy, it goes a long way.

4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation?

If accepted , I will always make sure that I am available to give my time for things regarding YAC. The only extra curricular activities that take up my time are sports. Next year I plan to do volleyball and run track, but I'll be sure to apply myself for all I can

5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when?

I have not.
