1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council?

I initially heard about this from a friend that is apart of the council, they briefly mentioned all the things the council did for the community. The way these things were described interested me, I enjoy helping out communities and providing positive addition to things that I’m apart of and could be apart of. I could help this council by providing insight to most of the decisions made. I enjoy helping out communities, so I would put all my effort to help this council.

2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service?

Community service is a way to use your body to help others who need it more than you. I enjoy community service because of the impact it has on people, I find inner peace and joy while helping others.

3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words

When presented with the harsh challenges of school, learning, and grades, many burdens are placed on the ones enduring this. The pressure to do well during school is very high, with the thought of not making it to colleges or achieving the career of their dreams. This pressure could be helped by the child’s parents supporting the child during high school, whether this be doing homework, or helping provide mental support to the children. When tasked with a child who is undergoing academic pressure and stress, I would first discuss with the child and find a root cause of the pressure whether it be the tough challenges of a class, or achieving good grades.
Now that the problem is addressed, find a way to help combat the pressure, this could be by encouraging the child to continue with academics. Finally, I would continue to check up with the child to see if the new found strategies are working to relieve the pressure. If these strategies are not working, I would continue a cycle of these strategies to help the child. Even if the child develops a good balance of pressure and calm, I would continue to check up on the child no matter. If the pressure doesn’t stay away there isn’t too much of a point in trying in the first place.

4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation?

I would prioritize my commitment by offering to volunteer and help at almost every possible chance provided to me through the council. I would place this council very high on my priorities such as academics and my relations with others. My extracurriculars include Tennis, golf, aswell as participating in volunteer activities for the national honors society.

5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when?

I have not.
