1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council?

I heard about it from a lot of my friends and how they really enjoyed the group of people. I’ve also heard that they like to have a say in things that happen in the town and i would love to be apart of that too. I have really great leadership qualities and I love helping when i can around my community. I’ve found myself wanting to know about how I can be more involved and I think this would be a great way to do just that.

2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service?

To me, community service is taking your own time to do something for the community. It could be something small but it could help so many people or just let people know that you care and are willing to help when needed. Community service has changed my perspective on how something that I’m doing might not mean much to me but it could change someone’s mood or even day. It makes me feel amazing knowing I did something for my community and that everything, big or little, helps in some way.

3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words

I’ve noticed mental health being a big issue in youth. Some contributing factors to mental health include school, bad friendships, relationships, and bullying. One thing I would recommend is finding healthy ways to take some small breaks from everything. Finding a time to just be with yourself away from everything and everyone could really help. If that doesn’t work for you, I’d also recommend finding someone you can trust and talk to them. Just let that person know how you’re feeling and what’s going on in your head so they can help you in the next step to get you what you need. Sometimes, a person might just need to find someone else who is going through a similar situation and they can just talk to each other about what they’ve been going through. In the community, you can find activities you like to do and go have fun doing something you enjoy. I would recommend doing activities where you are able to just relax not have to really worry about anything else that is going on in your life. Mental health is more prominent in youth and finding activities that you can do to help relax and can great for anyone.

4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation?

Depending on the time of year, I might have band interferences and sports events that i have to attend. I will communicate with the band director and coaches about my situation so that I am able to make it to the meetings.

5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when?

I have not applied before.
