1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council?

I heard about YAC through conversations with friends as well as posters that were hung throughout Marshall Public High School. I am interested in joining the council because I want to use my time and resources to become more thoroughly involved with Marshalls economy and community. Some qualities that I would bring to the council are my problem solving skills which help me efficiently figure out issues in a timely manner, my determination to stay attentive and finish the task at hand, and my responsibility to do what is needed even when it may be hard.

2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service?

To me, community service is a band of willing people, stepping up to help where is needed, providing necessary resources whatever that may be. It is the act of which help is being distributed to those who need it from generous and committed community members. I have been impacted by community service from when our church had a day of giving where we gave necessities to those who needed them to thrive more fully. This taught me the importance of giving back to our community and encouraged me to take another step forward.

3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words

To address the concern of mental health, I would first recommend informing as many teens as possible, perhaps through a classroom presentation. With this, it would create a more in depth awareness of the issue at hand through a lot of teenagers who would have the potential to spot it in themselves as well as others. Then, since a majority are aware and knowing of the matter, I would place signs or reminders in general areas through public spaces reminding of the struggle and giving them a resource to get help. So, now when they see any signs of mental health struggles, they can report it to specialists who are willing to help without the teen having to go way out of their way to find a solution. This would most likely lead to fewer people struggling. Next, I would teach staff how to notice and approach someone struggling without out pointing them out. This would lead to an even fewer number of people going unseen through their battle by adults with favor are able to assist in any harder than usual cases without creating peer conflict. So, as mental health strugglers find help, they can navigate through their journey with trustworthy guidance all because someone saw something and knew how to solve it.

4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation?

If I were to be accepted to the council, I would make my very best efforts to be not only in attendance at every gathering, but I would participate in everything relevant to the scenario. I will prioritize it not only by doing this, but I would prioritize needed work in my spare time to ensure completion of everything asked of. The only extra-curricular events that would interfere with my participation is baseball tournaments that usually occur on Saturday or if my church lets out late on Sundays, which shouldn't be an issue if we go to the earlier service. But, despite these interferences, I would make my best efforts to attend everything possible.

5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when?

No, I have not applied for a membership in the past.
