1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council?

I heard about YAC from some friends who are already members. Some qualities I would bring in would be teamwork and dedication to make a positive change.

2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service?

Community service to me means giving back to others and strengthening the community through volunteer efforts. It has impacted me by teaching empathy, connecting with people in need, and helping me develop leadership and teamwork skills.

3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words

Academic pressure can put a huge impact on students and people, especially during Covid. For example, when Covid hit and everyone was online, younger kids were just adjusting to school and had to do it through a screen. When it was over and they went back into person, there was a gap between them and older students. They weren’t as use to it as others are when they started. This caused them to fall behind and have a harder time learning. It can happen in sports to. If a kid is playing a school sport and has bad grades, the school will make them sit until they get their grades up. This can cause them to feel negative about themselves or get picked on by other players. It can also make it harder for them to ask for tutoring or after school lessons because it can make them feel uncool or unfitted into their peers. A solution I thought of to this can be getting a coach or an older athlete or just someone who is special to them in general to help tutor them and get their confidence back so they don’t feel as pressured to ask for it.

4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation?

In the summer sometimes I get super busy with baseball, work, or vacations but I will always do my best to make it to my commitments to YAC activities

5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when?

This is my first time applying to YAC
