1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council?

I heard about YAC from the school and a few family members who have done it in the past. Some qualities I would bring to the council are responsibility, teamwork, respectfulness, hardworking, positive attitude and more!

2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service?

Community service to me means helping others, and making a positive change in the environment around. Community service has impacted me through becoming more aware of others and their needs, and how certain actions can change certain things.

3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words

Mental health is an important issue affecting all ages and genders. For example teenagers. Teens with troubles of anxiety, stress, or depression all are experiencing small factors of mental health. Some reasons they experience this are sports, academics, family issues, social media platforms, relationships, and personal struggles. When some concerns aren’t addressed, mental health can affect these
reasons more.

One step I recommend is increase awareness at schools, and bigger communities. People need to recognize mental health issues because people they know could be going through this and need help. Could be a lot of help or could be a little amount of help. Knowing the state of mental health and if others are experiencing it and encourages people to seek help.

Another step is the access. People need all the access to talking to people they can get. If no help is near their health can get much worse. Having school counselors and communities having mental health services supports people with their struggles and provides safe places so everyone is comfortable sharing their stories.

A third step is to encourage healthy routines. Exercise, healthy diets, and spending time with people you love, is a great way to relive stress on your back. Taking breaks from your social media platforms and making or doing your favorite hobbies improves your happiness by a lot!

Lastly, supportive environments and communities is very important. People love to be heard and feel worthy. Family, teachers, friends and everyone else can help by listening. That’s all! Listening without judging. By raising awareness, listening, and encouraging, communities can support 10 times better and help everyone with their struggles because of mental health!

4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation?

If I get accepted into YAC I will prioritize my commitment by staying organized and managing my time. Knowing participation is important, I know everyone’s thoughts will be known and understood. I will keep track of dates, thoughts, and plan ahead. My extracurricular activities that could possibly interfere are volleyball and soccer.

5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when?

I have not applied in the past.
