1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council?

I heard about YAC through having multiple friends be apart of the council. I have heard about it from Jack Marsh, John Paul Rodgers, and Matthew Waito. I am interested in joining because I want to help represent my peers and have a say in community resources and grants. I want to be able to help and improve the community. Seeing and hearing about how others in the council have made an positive impact makes me want to take part in that impact. The qualities that would bring to the council is l am dedicated and l am dedicated to my goals. l am hardworking and eager to help and learn, I am also detail oriented and work quickly and efficiently.

2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service?

Community service means to me means that I feel I have a responsibility to leave the community, my school, and city better than I found it. It means doing something with little benefit for yourself but something that can greatly help others just like you. It helps me feel a purpose in what am doing knowing it is beneficial to someone else. The ways I have been impacted by community service are that it has show me that anyone can make a difference and it is your responsibility to help and improve your community if you can. It also has shown me that everyone needs help at some point and it’s not weakness it’s a show of strength.

3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words

a)All students face a mountain of pressure to balance advanced coursework, gpa, testing, extracurriculars, and college decisions wich causes students to feel burnt out. To lighten the pressure I would first a mentoring program where students in higher grades that have taken these classes have opportunities to share resources and tips to other students to help share their experience. Next, I would advocate for mental health days where students get a break and can reset mentally and get prepared for the future. Then, I would have older students share their stories and show that not every test and grade is perfect and you can’t stress over every little thing. I would next advocate to make it more known that help is available for mental health and dealing stress weather it’s from teachers, counselors, administration, or other students. Finally, I would advocate for a afterschool studying group where NHS students or YAC students could volunteer and help other students struggling with class work or tests. These would all take some of the stress away from a singular student and would help spread their stress instead of holding it all in and becoming burned out and unmotivated they would feel refreshed and ready for the future.

4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation?

I will prioritize my commitment to YAC by keeping a schedule and making sure YAC doesn’t get interrupted by less important events and keeping a priority in my schedule. I will also make sure I am on top of my school work and studying so that anytime out of school I can be available. I will imagine YAC as a responsibility not just a club for fun. Lastly I will communicate quickly if there is an unavoidable conflict that would cause a problem. Student council, NHS, tennis, and being a student teller might interfere with my YAC participation.

5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when?
