| 1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council? | I heard about joining YAC from many of my friends in the program and I’m interested in joining because YAC looks like a great way to get involved in my community. Some quality’s I would bring to the council are that I’m hard working and want to get to know people and build connections with them. |
| 2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service? | Community service to me isn’t just community service it’s away to give your community what it needs while also learning new skills and making connections. One way I have been impacted by community service is I helped plant trees in down town Marshall with the Marshall tree committee and I learned valuable life skills just by helping the community. |
| 3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words | The issue in my community I’m going to touch on is academic pressure and how it effects many students no matter what grade students. Academic pressure affects not just your mental health but also your relationships with parents or guardians. In Marshall many students struggle with academic pressures, even I do. But sometimes the stress of academic pressure can be detrimental to your mental health causing you to feel pushed past your breaking point. So to help with this issue I believe we should communicate this to the schools and parents to be positive and motivate students rather then push them to their breaking point.Academic pressure frequently pushes students past healthy motivation into chronic stress.Studies show that high amounts of academic pressure put on my by parents significantly impairs mental wellness, driving up rates of anxiety, depression, and burnout. The demanding pursuit of good grades and needing to be perfect often leaves students feeling overwhelmed, often making them feel unattached to their own personal lives. In conclusion I believe that we shouldn’t put so much pressure on students to be perfect and instead we motivate them to do good with lots of positive reassurance that creates healthy and happy students. |
| 4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation? | If accepted into YAC to prioritize my commitment to the organization I would communicate to my coaches for soccer, basketball, and maybe even golf if I decide to play this year. And I will also communicate to my 4-H chicken leader if any of the meetings interfere with the fair. |
| 5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when? | No |
