1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council?

I was recommended by a friend. i think i can bring a great work ethic and attitude towards the cause of helping our community.

2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service?

Community service makes me feel like i am doing my part in helping our community’s and makes me feel like i’m giving back.

3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words

The steps i would recommend to addressing the issue of Vaping/ e-cigarettes would be to make sure that every student is aware what happens to your lungs and body when you vape, the chemicals that fill your lungs and the long lasting effect vaping can have on you. Teachers and Staff should learn how to tell. Awareness of patterns, like someone leaving class at the same time everyday, and knowing and checking places of common use matters more than guessing. School rules should be easy to understand and applied the same way every time. Mixed messages make the problem worse.
The support matters just as much as rules. Some students already depend on nicotine, so access to quitting help, counseling or health support can make the difference. The implement of vape detectors in the bathroom has significantly lowered the amount of use in the school. As a portion of our students are addicted to nicotine it will be most important to offer help to those in need. There is no real way to control what students do because if someone wants to do something bad enough they will find a way, if we can limit the amount of Vaping/E-cigarette use in our school i think we would be doing a good service to our schools health.

4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation?

I would try my best to prioritize the YAC meetings and make every one i can. I play Football, Basketball, and Golf. My family goes camping up north a lot in the summer and fall months on the weekends, i probably won’t be perfect but i will try.

5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when?

i have never applied for YAC
