| 1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council? | I heard about YAC from some of my friends and I would like to join to help my community. I have obtained scholarships from the Marshall Community Foundation in the past, and I would like to help others get assistance in pursuing opportunities they might otherwise not have. Helping the community and my peers is important to me, as I pride myself by being a member of the town of Marshall. Small communities rely on the time and effort of others to thrive. I am very hard-working, compassionate and don't procrastinate, and joining YAC would be beneficial for me and YAC. |
| 2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service? | For me, community service means helping others by doing things like soup kitchens, picking up trash, helping organize and coordinate donations for those less fortunate, and more. I have been impacted by community service in many ways, like people cleaning up the road I live on or picking up litter around my school. I also helped with bake sales and fundraisers for the Koka City trip last year. |
| 3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words | Academic pressure is a large problem in our community, city, and even country. School and sports place a lot of pressure on students, sometimes leading them to feel bad about themselves and others. Testing, sport events, and homework can make students exhausted and stressed, and not much has been done to fix this problem. To help resolve this issue, schools could make counseling and mental health services more available, as it is currently difficult for some students to get the help they need. For instance, students or schools could organize meetings for students to talk about their feelings and what is making them stressed, and they could come up with solutions together. |
| 4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation? | I take commitments very seriously, and will try as hard as I can to attend all YAC meetings and events. I will make sure not to schedule things during YAC meetings. However, I plan to be a member of the MHS golf and track team next year, which may cause scheduling conflicts for some YAC events. |
| 5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when? | I have not applied for a YAC membership before. |
