1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council?

I heard about YAC through some friends. I am interested in joining as it helps you connect through all walks of life. Some qualities I bring to YAC are having compassion, commitment and being adaptable. I communicate well and deeply committed to anything I involve myself in. I believe being compassionate helps me understand people better and relate to them in order to help someone. An important quality is my ability to learn and grow that allows me to expand my horizon.

2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service?

Community service means to do something for someone without expecting anything in return. Community service should be about growing with community and connecting with people. There always people struggling worse than you and having the capability to make a light in their day make the biggest difference. In this present world many communities are very disconnected and I believe that community service helps breaks those barriers and it build a relationship and trust for families. I also believe community service helps pave ways for those who can not afford to on its own. There are bright people who don't have resources to achieve success as others. So community service is about helping those who can't help themselves.

3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words

Mental Health can be highly praised and have awareness at times. Yet when someone has mental health problems it is not as highly supported. Mental Health is a crucial problem everywhere and change starts back it the roots. To have a community that is loving and supportive will be highly successful in tackling Mental health issues. Those who have mental health problems should not be afraid to speak up and having support around you is an important factor. It is hard to seek help when you feel like you don't have any. I feel like Mental health issues should be address by starting with the basics. You know just doing small things for people. Smiling and telling people to have a good day in public. Helping doing small thing as clearing the driveway of snow or even paying someone's item for a few dollars. You don't know what people are going through and the best thing you can do is be the reason someone chooses to live for another day. So I would encourage people to be kind and to go the extra mile if you can everyday. It just starts with one person and it builds as if your community is strong, other things will align in place. I believe changing mental health starts at the roots by doing small things that can lead to bigger and greater changes.

4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation?

I will prioritize going to every meeting and projects as it is important because I knows spots are limited and if I am chosen I am representing my community. I signed up for a task and I am prepared to make sure I finish what I started. Extra curricular events may include basketball, NHS, and my job that could interfere with YAC participation. Yet, I will make arrangements to ensure I can be at the YAC events the best I am capable of.

5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when?

Yes, I did apply last year.
