1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council?

I heard about the Marshall Youth Advisory Counsel when my sister joined her Sophomore year of High School, since then I have been interested in joining. I want to assist nonprofits in the community and help make the community better! I want to discus with my peers and listen to their ideas on how to improve the community.

2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service?

Community service matters to me because it helps out businesses and people in the community. Not only does it help others being impacted by it but the people doing the community service earn the reward of helping people. I have been impacted by community service when helping with local VBS in the community and other camps in the community.

3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words

In my opinion I feel as if I were to address mental health in the community I would first recognize how many of the youth in the community struggle with these issues. To continue on with seeing how many struggle with there mental health, I would next see what people have done in the past that have help and some solutions that have not worked to recognize the mistakes and fix them with new solutions. I would discus with my fellow YACers and get their input on the situation and collaborate our ideas until we have a solution to try in the community even if there is trial and error. I feel as when we have trial and error we make our ideas better each time so we can help the youth in the community. After talking about our ideas we would take it to the community and see if it decreases the amount that struggle with their mental health. In conclusion, I feel as if we should take mental health in consideration and recognize it and the effects it causes on the youth in the long run and help out the community by trying to help these kids as teens ourselves.

4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation?

I will prioritize coming to the meetings and attending service projects by working any of the meetings or projects in as soon as I know about them. I should be able to attend most of the meetings if I work it into my schedule before hand. My extra curricular mostly insist of 4-H( Which is one week in August for fair and the second Monday of every month), Cross Country ( After school and some XC meets on Saturdays), Track (After school and some Saturday meets), And MIHA ( which is still to be undermanned but should only be on Saturdays). Like I said I will be responsible when knowing when the meetings and other projects into my schedule.

5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when?

No, this is my first time applying for the Youth Advisory Council.
