Improving teen mental health in a community requires a comprehensive and compassionate approach. First, raising awareness and reducing stigma is crucial—this can be done through school programs, open conversations, and social media campaigns that normalize seeking help. Accessible resources must be available, including school counselors, youth-friendly clinics, and, most importantly, a dedicated space where licensed therapists can volunteer their time to offer free, confidential counseling to teens in need. Adults such as teachers, parents, and coaches should be trained to recognize signs of mental distress and respond supportively. Teaching healthy coping skills like mindfulness, stress management, and creative expression helps teens positively manage emotions. Safe, inclusive environments that discourage bullying and encourage acceptance are essential, as are strong peer support networks, such as mentoring programs and student-led mental health clubs. Encouraging physical wellness through good nutrition, exercise, and sleep further supports emotional well-being. Involving teens in the design and leadership of mental health initiatives ensures their voices are heard, and partnerships with local organizations can expand resources. Lastly, continuous feedback and program evaluation help refine efforts to meet the needs of young people in the community truly. Having these resources do not only effect the teens currently but also for the future to come.

4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation?

If I were to be accepted into YAC, I would prioritize YAC in order to keep the reputation that YAC has made throughout its years. One extra-curricular that could possibly interfere would be cheerleading.

5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when?
