1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council? | I heard about YAC from my sister and friends. I am interested in joining because I would like to help my community. I think I have the leadership and teamwork qualities needed to be in YAC. |
2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service? | Community service means to give back to your community. This could be done by volunteering at a food drives, helping a senior citizen etc. I have been impacted by community service by many of the events that I went to as a kid being run by volunteers. |
3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words | A. Academic pressure is a big concern in our community. It has affected me, people I know, and most likely everyone. Having to do work for 6 different classes and fit in social life and extracurriculars can be stressful. One way that I have tried to stop the stress is using my time wisely, so we could give more time to students to work on homework in school. Also we could have a dedicated study hour after school. We could set up an hour or two, have a supervisor and students could come and do work for classes. This stress from academics and others can also be a good thing. It teaches students how to deal with stressful things and how to plan your day out. If we just give these students everything then when they go out into the real world they will not be ready. So what we have to do is give them the tools they need to be successful, but let them deal with it themselves so they get that real life experience. These options could really help dwindle the academic pressure while still giving the students real life experience and setting them up for success. |
4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation? | I will prioritize my commitment to YAC by not scheduling activities during the meetings and making sure I have a plan to get to and from meetings. Extracurricular activities that might interfere with YAC are basketball and band. |
5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when? | No |
