| 1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council? | I heard about YAC because my sister is a member and my mom was a member when she was in high school. I am interested in joining because I want to help youth organizations in my community. I like that YAC gives young people a say in the grants that come in. I think I could contribute to the council because I am honest with voicing my opinions. But I am also able to listen to others. |
| 2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service? | To me community service means helping our community grow and become better. It helps our community be a positive place to live and raise children. I know that many of the activities I do in Marshall are possible because of community service. Now that I am older I am able to become a volunteer and help the things I enjoy still be possible. In the past year I have helped with the Marshall Area Community Services. This made me feel like I had an impact on the community. |
| 3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words | I agree that vaping and e-cigarettes are a concern in our community. Steps I would recommend taking to address the concern is having more after school activities so kids are not as bored. I believe that a reason that kids vape is because they are bored. If they have more activities to do vaping will not be as needed. I also believe that we should have more speakers in classes that have an experience from vaping. An example would be a person who has vaped and now have lung problems and tongue cancer. Kids will listen to this and realize what might happen if you vape. Also having it come directly from the person who is having this problem will make the kids realize how harmful vaping is. Another example to help kids stop vaping is to make sure stores that sell vapes always check identification and make sure everybody is of age that comes into buy vapes. I believe that part of the reason kids have access to vapes is because store clerks are not strict enough. My last example is to address how some vape manufacturers make vape flavors more appealing to kids' taste. Trying to stop this from happening will have kids not as attracted to vaping. If we try to do something about these concerns I believe that the amount of kids that vape will go down. |
| 4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation? | If I am accepted to YAC I will take my commitment seriously. If I commit to something I try my best to make it a priority. I participate in plays, band, and may do high school swimming and tennis. I do not believe this will affect meetings or service projects. |
| 5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when? | No |
