| 1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council? | I heard about YAC through my friends. I am interested in joining YAC because they value the qualities I do, specifically the community service. My whole life of being grown up in such a small town that has inspired me to try new things and reach for the stars and to get right back up if things dont go as planned which taught me a moral lesson to life itself, I think its only generous enough to want to give back to what they gave to me. Its a great way to show people you care about them but also you care about the things that go unnotice. The qualities I would bring to YAC is mutual respect, communication, adaptability and a positive attitude. |
| 2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service? | Community service has always struck a spark in me wanting to make a difference in my small town, after all its impacted me to be a better person by just the people in this town. Community service makes me want to make a positive impact on others meaningfully and make everything and everyone be seen. |
| 3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words | A big issue all over the world that needs to be discussed is Mental Health, about 166 millions teens suffer from mental health that are diagnosed. Which being the number one diagnosis is anxiety. Teens suffer from anxiety from all sort of things which being the number one competitor being social media. We need to stop telling kids at a young age that crying isn't allowed or its a bad thing, when keeping a emotional state coped up it can only bring depression and more anxiety and why you "cant" feel this way, especially for boys. Being told as a boy that "boys don't cry" only makes them feel insecure about their emotions not being relevant. Social media keeps kids from acknowledging what they offer as a person and being comfortable in their own skin because the world has this stigma that you haft to look this way to be socially acceptable and you get caught up and feel insecure about who you are. Social media should be a positive place and that's where change needs to start, positive self talk and self actualization would change the way everyone would look at themselves. Mental health has a stigma around it and there needs to be a ending to teens continuously diving deeper into this hole, change needs to happen now. |
| 4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation? | If I was accepted into YAC I would prioritize this opportunity and make sure I'm free for every opportunity to grow closer to my community. Im normally always free on the weekends unless something pops up but that's normally never when I prioritize something I'm strongly apart of. |
| 5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when? | No |
