1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council?

I heard about YAC through fellow classmates and social media. I would bring qualities such as leadership, empathy, conscientiousness, integrity, and advocacy to the council.

2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service?

Community service to me means volunteering and helping others in the community to meet the needs of the greater good. I have been impacted by community service by allowing me to connect with members of my community and become more integrated into society.

3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words

B.) Mental health
To address mental health in my community, I would first and foremost find a way to raise awareness. Whether that includes posting flyers and pamphlets, or even finding integration into community events. I would find a way to bring those in our society together to help them realize that nobody is alone. The flyers and pamphlets would include hotlines to those in need or even encouraging words that help promote healthy mental health and well being. I would help educate those on mental health services and where they can access comprehensive mental health services. Another main aspect of spreading awareness could include social media. This can look like reposting posts that promote asking for help, sending them to those around me, or promoting accounts that guide people on this subject. The event aspects on promoting positive mindfulness can include walking groups, meditation, or even yoga in a local park. In some ways, people enjoy going out and seeing nature because it helps them feel more down to earth in that moment, and like all of the problems in that moment are ejected to nothingness. This overall can help promote a routine of this and a continuous positive mindset that we may all be able to grasp overtime outside of these movements.

4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation?

I will prioritize my commitment to the organization by keeping a calendar of important events and meeting dates to ensure the events and activities do not interfere with this schedule. Events through the National Honors Society when participating in volunteering hours and possibly the BCAMSC Invent Team might interfere with my YAC participation, but through careful planning and utilizing a calendar or agenda, I could minimize or eliminate these interferences.

5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when?

No
