1. How did you hear about YAC and why are you interested in joining? What specific qualities would you bring to the council? | I heard about YAC through friends and instagram. I am interested in joining YAC to help better our community and be a part of the change. I being great leadership qualities to YAC, as a current drum major and member of NHS. |
2. What does community service mean to you and how have you been impacted by community service? | To me community service is helping out in your community for the pure joy it brings you and the people you help and nothing more. I have met so many people and made so many friendships through community service at MHS web the Franke center. |
3. YAC has identified the following youth issues as concerns in our community: (a) Academic pressure, (b) Mental health, (c) Vaping/e-cigarettes. Choose one of the issues. Discuss steps you would recommend taking to address the concern. *Write a minimum of 200 words | I’m writing about option A, academic pressure. I personally have been under a lot of academic pressure throughout my ten years of school. From feeling like you are only as good as your grades to being petrified of not getting into a good college or being a failure I have been through it all, I know how it feels. The struggle you feel is like no other. My plan is to offer more tutoring options along with more ways for people to express their fears. Just because someone is stereotyped as being good at school does not mean that they do not experience stress or anxiety. I want to make options available for everyone who has had the same struggle as me. I want to make it so even the stereotyped “smart kid” has someone to turn to about academic stress. To begin I would make it known that everyone has someone to turn to, after that I would hold after school sessions of tutoring. I want to make sure that everyone knows who they can talk to without being judged, without anxiety, without stress. That’s how I would handle academic pressure and do my absolute best to make everyone comfortable. |
4. If accepted to YAC, how will you prioritize your commitment to the organization? What extra-curricular events/activities might interfere with your YAC participation? | To prioritize YAC I will miss some practices here and there to make sure that I am putting as much of my available time as possible into YAC. |
5. Have you applied for YAC membership in the past? If so, when? | Nope |
