The Marshall Community Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving quality of life in Marshall, and throughout Calhoun County. The Foundation holds permanently endowed funds from a range of donors, and serves as a conduit for special projects and the distribution of grants in support of innovative programs.
Position: Program Officer, Grant Management and Youth Advisory Council
The Marshall Community Foundation (MCF) Program Officer will operate under the direction of the Executive Director within the policies and procedures established by the Foundation’s Bylaws, Resolutions, Fund Agreements and guidelines duly adopted and consistent with appropriate federal, state and local laws.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Grant Management
The responsibilities of the grant manager is to act as a coordinator of MCF’s grant-making initiatives from initial point of contact with a grantee to final report. He or she will supervise and organize all grant-making initiatives and ensure grant-making aligns with MCF objectives.
- Be acutely aware of how MCF grant-making goals and priorities meet community needs – and vice versa – and participate in Board-level conversations reflective of such.
- Identify and engage with local non-profit agencies, building a working knowledge of their mission and scope of activities.
- Prepare grant applications for MCF’s Grant Review Committee (GRC), which includes conducting all pre-grant inquiries to ensure proposed activities are charitable and the grantee is in good standing with the IRS.
- Prepare GRC agenda and supporting documents, as well as meeting minutes. Serve as GRC staff liaison to Board of Trustees.
- Monitor MCF grant-making budget and additional resources available for distribution.
- Prepare grant agreements, oversee grantee progress reports, and ensure grantee’s final report reflects the MCF Board approved distribution.
- Manage appropriate historical documents for MCF grant-making initiatives.
- Promote MCF grant-making outcomes with appropriate Community forums.
Youth Advisory Council, Advisor
The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is a permanent advisory committee of MCF, with the primary responsibility of coordinating with YAC members to recommend grants from the Foundation’s endowed Youth Fund. YAC’s main objectives include:
- Assessing needs, assets and priorities for area youth in order to make informed grant-making decisions.
- Be knowledgeable about youth-oriented community needs, and inform YAC and MCF Board members about these topics.
- Be knowledgeable of potential community partners with whom YAC can collaborate.
- Work with YAC members to spearhead and participate in community service activities.
- From time-to-time, work collaboratively with local school administrators to facilitate YAC programs and initiatives
- Promote youth volunteerism and leadership
- Lead YAC members in organizing, planning and running meetings. Ensure all meeting agendas and materials are distributed prior to meetings.
- Mentor and contribute to the growth of YAC members, and strengthen their professional development and leadership skills through connections with the MCF Board and other applicable organizations.
- Provide annual orientation to new YAC members, and encourage current YAC members to plan and lead new member orientation.
- Ensure YAC membership is representative of local diversity.
- Work with YAC members to identify ways they can best promote and facilitate local youth philanthropy.
- Serve as the liaison between YAC and MCF Board of Directors, and carry out all administrative functions related to YAC.
- Attend MCF Board meetings.
- Attend MCF Executive Committee meetings, when requested.
- Promote YAC initiatives in various community forums.
- Propose and accurately maintain annual YAC budget.
Essential Skills and Abilities
- At least a Bachelor’s Degree, and 3-5 years’ equivalent work experience in related field.
- Possess excellent organizational skills with experience independently managing and supervising the execution of projects
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Ability to work successfully in a self-directed environment, as well as coordinate shared projects as part of a team
- Ability to prioritize work, balance multiple priorities, meet deadlines and produce quality results on time with attention to detail
- Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, Gmail, Google Docs and social media
- Flexibility and adaptability
Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the Executive Director’s discretion. While performing the duties of this job, it is expected that the employee will attend meetings and events that may occasionally extend beyond standard working hours.
