The Marshall Community Foundation Welcomes our Newest Board Member: Dennis Oosterhart

A lifelong Marshall resident, Dennis Oosterhart was born and raised in the community he continues to serve. Dennis joined the Marshall Community Foundation Board of Trustees in October 2025, but his connection to the Foundation goes back much further. He first began volunteering with the Foundation in 2017, serving on a MCF Scholarship Committee, and later contributing his time and insight to the Impact Grant Committee. Dennis exhibits many wonderful traits and characteristics that the Foundation looks for in its Board members, including a desire for deeper understanding, enthusiasm to listen and learn, and an eagerness to participate in strategic conversations. Above all, he is committed to the Foundation’s mission.

Even before his time at the foundation, Dennis’ commitment to his community has always been constant.  He has served as a lead coordinator for the Blues Festival and Ice, Wine, Beer and Blues, two of Marshall’s biggest events.

At just 11 years old, Dennis took on his first job, sweeping hair and running errands at D. Knight Designs. He attended Albion College, graduating with a degree in communications with a business minor. Today, he is a full-time stylist at D. Knight Designs, while also managing payroll, administration, and a variety of maintenance projects.

For Dennis, the Foundation’s guiding principle—for good, for ever—speaks to stewardship. To him, it means paying attention to the needs of today while preparing thoughtfully for the needs of tomorrow.

Looking ahead, Dennis is excited to support the Foundation’s growth, strengthen the greater-Marshall area, and help demonstrate the powerful impact a Community Foundation can have on the people of Marshall.
